Last week we presented the release of SMART-TRIAL 2.1. The new version includes new features and bug fixes, and it is our hope that this version will make the researchers life even more joyful. The development process has been enjoyable and demanding, and we would like to thank all of the users for their contribution and help, which has been of great value for MEDEI. We hope that the new version will increase effectiveness and quality in clinical research. To create a better overview of the new functionalities we have listed them below.

Test Drive Study

The new version includes a Test Drive Study function, which enables researchers to double check their protocol before starting their data acquisition using SMART-TRIAL. The Test Drive Mode enables the researcher to test the protocol with up to five subjects. After doing a test drive the researcher can “reset” the study, edit the setup, and try it again. This is in our opinion, an important function for the researcher to prevent any protocol or form-failures that might occur after study start.

New Question Types

Another important feature included in the new version is the addition of Body Charts, which are frequently used in pain and dermatological studies for indicating affected areas. Along with that, we have released new set of question types; 5 level smileys, image questions, and multiple choice/response with image possibilities

Multiple Sites

SMART-TRIAL 2.1 also supports multiple sites. This enables researchers to share their study across multiple geographical locations, adding important value to researchers performing studies across cities and countries.

Recruitment

Patient recruitment is of concern for many researchers. Therefore, we have created the option of having your study "open-ended" in the start. That means that the researcher can create a form with inclusion/exclusion rules that can be shared with a link on social media or directly to interested individuals. In addition, the status of each enrolled subject is now more accessible, giving the researcher an increased overview of his/her study.Although we are thrilled with the new version, we certainly hope to improve the software even further. We also hope that we can keep on developing the software with the user´s input and aid, as we find it extremely important to do this in cooperation with the people of interest; the hard working clinical researchers.
